10 things!

Hello! Hello!
Hope everyone's doing well!!
While we are very excited for the Superbowl next Sunday, there's no football today ('cept the pro-bowl) and so both arnab and I will be spending the day with our friends, how lovely!

It's 10 things time again and I couldn't be more excited!
(you'll see why soon)
Shall we get to it then!
anisa's 5 things:
Last post I spent a bit of time speaking about my love for all this nautical. Well here are some things I've found while browsing magazines and the internet that have me sitting on my hands, or else I'll try to buy them all, and I really can't do that for the first 3 things on the list!
(which also happen to be the three I want the most!)

1.
Kate Spade New York: 'barclay street' ship clutch
Three words: OH MY GOD!!!

2.
Yves Saint Laurent: gold-plated anchor necklace
Something I do, quite often, is I rationalize buying things if I can kill more than one bird (so to speak) by buying the piece. In this case I'd be getting a YSL necklace and it's an anchor!!!

3.
Pierre Hardy: striped twill wedge sandals
I'm a sucker for wedges and stripes. Love it!

4.
Betsey Johnson: anchor and bird triple finger ring
A bit more affordable then the first two, so do I want this? Yes please!

5.
Madewell: best mate belt
How cute is this belt! I think it would be such a great way to take a simple look and make it a bit more fun!

arnab's 5 things:
For my top 5, I decided to go ahead and spotlight some male accessories. Enjoy!
1.
Buzzy Bow by Pierrepont Hicks

2.
Cranley Tie by Pierrepont Hicks

3.
Zip Wallet by Commes de Garcons

4.
Wolf Ring by Las Jewelry

5.
Slate Scarf

As usual, we've linked our pictures, either to the store we found them at, or to the website we found them at, so if you want anymore information on anything, click the pictures!
Cheers!

so runs the world away

I remember writing, in a past post, that my love for nautical themed things knows no bounds, well it's been like that since forever and and probably will never wane.
I count myself lucky to have found this sailboat shirt on ebay and I absolutely adore it!
Every so often I search through etsy and ebay for more nautical themed shirts but I've yet to find one as cool as this.

In this look arnab looks like a pilot from that past, doesn't he?
He's wearing his new cardigan that our parents gave him during the holidays. It was a great gift as arnab is in love with Ralph Lauren's Denim & Supply line.
I can understand why, the line has a very clean yet rugged feel, with fantastic prints and an amazing selection of outwear! Check it out here.

i woke with a head full of songs

We took these outfit posts a few days before the rain came down on us.  arnab decided to go the neutral colors route, I took a page from his book and went all grey, haha.
Something you'll find a lot of here in L.A. is layering, I think it's because it never stays cold for to long so you have to be prepared for a warm up. arnab obviously takes advantage of this, which works well since layering never goes out of style and you can play around with different prints, colors, materials, etc.

These jeans I'm wearing were a gift from arnab and I love them because it's made up of all these shades of grey!

I love wearing heels but I am not at all confident wearing heels that are as high as the ones I'm wearing in this look. I have fallen before in heels, but I'm not sure if it's cause of the heel, cause of my lack of confidence, or because I can never stand still...
I usually reserve my 3"+ heels for parties and such, though I've been known to wear them to go shopping and if arnab's with me he cringes because I walk infinitely slower in them! Most days through I wear flats or my shoes with heels that are 1-2" high, for my safety and everyone else's sanity (haha.)

inspiration: Burberry Prorsum!

Christopher Bailey, Burberry's Chief creative officer, said that he wanted this fall collection to look “polite and charming,” a mix of British city and country style. I totally agree with this review which says that he hit his target spot on! arnab saw the collection before me (while he was at work no less!) and as soon as he saw me he was raving about it and hounding me to look at it. I saw it (you can see it here) and agreed, the collection is stunning!

The collection as a whole is very form-fitting, which is always lovely!
The coats are perfect in every way!

Bomber jackets! (swoon!)
I think the bomber jacket is the epitome of sexy and cool.
And did you see those laptop(?) bags, I want one now please!

Gorgeous suits, my favorite is the herringbone!
And how fun are their umbrellas?

Velvet, colored suits!
What a fun and different way to wear a suit!

And the patterns, all the patterns!
It's like Mr. Bailey was trying to make us all burst with joy!
(by 'all' I mean all of us who are obsessed with patterns, me!)

What a wonderful collection!
Wouldn't you agree?!

the devil was three steps behind

Shoes are fun aren't they?
Fun to look at, fun to wear, fun to buy! ;)
I go crazy when it comes to handbags, as in I have no control when it comes to them, but with shoes I try to be a bit more practical.
I try to buy pairs that will last long and that are versatile, like my Jeffrey Campbell boots which are my go to shoes, especially for everyday errands and such. Some of the shoes I have, I've had for ages because they're nice and sturdy and they're pretty classic styles, so thankfully they don't go out of fashion.
These Seychelles I'm wearing, I like to pair with dresses and skirts and since they're this lovely nude color I get much use out of them! Even better though is that I've also been known to pair them with a pair of jeans to take my outfit from being plain (and sometimes boyish) to a much more feminine feel, I love them!

little miss goody two shoes

Hi everyone!

I'm alone for this post, arnab's taking a small break this week.
This is the very first time I've ever worn a button-down shirt & sweater combo, can you believe it?!
On my hunt for cable-knit sweaters, I found this lovely one at Forever 21. My favorite part is the color, I'm pretty obsessed with green.

Speaking of obsessed, I don't know how well you can see my nails but I'm obsessed with the nail polish I'm wearing. It was given to me by my best friend and is OPI's Teal the Cows Come Home. It's the loveliest shade of teal and it has a sparkle to it. She gave it to me for Christmas and I've kind of been wearing it ever since.

New BCBGeneration heels, yay for shoes! arnab and our mom always say that I have the most shoes in the house, I protest all the time, but I don't think I can do that any more...

anisa is wearing Forever 21 sweater, BCBGeneration button down shirt, Current/Elliott jeans, BCBGeneration heels

I hope the weekend was well for everyone. Mine was spent watching football, specifically the 49er's game and Patriots' game. Both games and subsequent wins were particularly thrilling. When football ends in three weeks, it's going to be a sad day... ;)
Have a wonderful Wednesday!!
Cheers!

eat your heart out: tres leches cake!

Tres Leches Cake

A few weeks back I came across this site, The Pioneer Woman. It's run by a lady named Ree who blogs about her cooking endeavors. Her blog is connected to another blog where members from all over post recipes of their own. I know, so many recipes! What I love about Ree's blog is that she photographs her way through the recipe and shows us what things should be looking like at certain stages, so helpful!

Anyway, the first (and definitely not last) recipe I tried out was the Tres Leches Cake (or "three milks" cake, if you don't know why it's called that, you will) recipe I found.
Growing up, many Nepali families I knew served Tres Leches Cake, quite literally, to every celebration and party they held. The adults loved it, the kids were hoping for some chocolate cake!
My mom was one of those who loved it, and don't get me wrong, arnab and I enjoyed the cake as well, but after eating it over and over again, it was a bit tiring.

It's been a while since we've eaten the cake, thank gosh, but when I saw the recipe on her site I was curious about it. I read through the directions and it looked quite simple. I made it for our New Years eve and it came out delicious!

Instead of re-posting the recipe here I'll link you and instead post pictures of some of the stages of me making the cake.  :)
The recipe can be found here! First you'll see Ree going through the recipe herself and the below that you'll find the recipe.

This is what the sponge cake looks like:
It's extremely easy to do this, trust me! The thickness will depend on the cake pan you make the cake in. You can even cut the cake in half and make it two layers, something I want to try!

Here's the milk mixture, where all you do is combine the evaporated milk, sweetened, condensed milk, and heavy cream

Poke holes in your cake with a fork, and slowly pour on the milk mixture all over!

In the recipe it says, before you start pouring on the mixture, to separate a cup of the mixture, because most times it will turn out that you wont need the mixture. As a suggestions, definitely keep the cup of milk mixture separate but after the cake has sat and soaked the mixture and right before you serve, if it appears that top of the cake is not so moist, feel free to pour some on the top. The mixture and the cake are not to sweet apart or together so adding that extra cup won't make a huge difference.

When the cake has sat and soaked in the milk mixture add on some whipping cream, maybe some fruit, and tada!

Besides the fact that the cake came out yummy, another good thing that came out is that I found a new sponge cake recipe (which is the base of the Tres Leches)! I use sponge cake a lot. And I loved my old recipe but this one is a little less complicated and the cake comes out bigger and yummy, lovely!

I give this recipe an A+!
Happy baking!

we are nowhere and it's now

I'm wearing one of my favorite vintage pieces, the blue pencil skirt. Thankfully pencil skirts are pretty popular even now so it's not hard to find them but I still loving buying vintage skirts.
Vintage pieces always have that extra something, don't you think? This skirt is this fantastic blue hue, which you don't find a lot of, I love it. I paired it with this ASOS varisty jacket that has leather sleeves and an "A" on it, clearly made for me! ;)

arnab's wearing this Alternative Apparel sweatshirt that he found during an after-holiday sale at Urban Outfitters, they have the best after-holiday sales. What I think is hilarious is that it happens to be in the two colors arnab doesn't really like, haha. But I do like that pairing and the sweatshirt and sometimes it's good to step out of your comfort zone, no?
