down in the valley

The title of our post is the title of a song by The Head and The Heart (who I am obsessed with.)
The valley they're referring to, I'm sure, is not the San Fernando Valley, but it's definitely the valley I'm referring too.

When we took these pics. arnab and I were doing our favorite thing in the valley, which is thrift/vintage store shopping.
Besides finding cool things, it's always nice seeing the store owners who are always so friendly.

on a rowdy summer night

Last week arnab and I went out with out friend Iliana and her boyfriend Richard to celebrate Iliana's birthday.
We went to Kabuki Sushi, a small sushi restaurant, and let me tell you- we had a blast.

:)
Our waitress was nice and funny, the food was awesome, and hanging out with friends was, as always, the best.

eat your heart out: diy cupcakes!

A recipe post!
I haven't done one in forever!
But hopefully we'll get back to doing these fairly often.

So.
One thing that I've learned in all my baking endeavors is that some cake recipes shouldn't ever be made into cupcakes unless they say you can or you're an expert.
It's just weird that way sometimes.
Unfortunately, you also never know which cake recipes can be converted and which can't.

One of my most favorite cakes is the sponge cake.
It's a fairly easy cake to make and I think it has a nice balance of everything.
I decided to take my favorite sponge cake recipe and make them into cupcakes, with my fingers crossed.
And they came out lovely!

I used this recipe from The Pioneer Woman, which provides a picture by picture how-to.
{The recipe starts with the making of the cake and you stop once the cupcakes are made, don't go on to the evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream}
I followed the recipe for the cake step by step, including the oven temp, the filled cupcake liners about 3/4, and then put them in the oven for 35 min. (it may take longer) and checked them w/ toothpicks.

Then came the frosting:

Ice cream!
Since it's been on the warmer side here I thought I'd do an ice cream cupcake and it came out delicious!

mocha almond fudge

chocolate chip

Whipped Cream!
Then next day I started experimenting with whipped cream, I honestly loved all the results.

Regular whipped cream, which I love because you can eat it alone or pair it with fruits!

Chocolate whipped cream, that I made for the first time and it was a hit!

And mocha whipped cream, that I also made for the first time and was oh so yummy!

Whipped cream is very easy to make and what's great about it is that as you can make it to your taste  with more/less vanilla, more/less sugar, etc.
I found the recipes for all the whipped creams here, it comes with a youtube video and everything!

Happy baking!!
Cheers!

and we’re all on our way to the beach

"Crossing sandy dunes
Hot day, mid-June
Naked kids, running wild, and free.
It's summer time fun, relax and stay young...
The water feels nice, dive deep down under
The ships, and treasures make reef
Just one of those days, had a blue, perfect wave
Come out, and join. You'll see."
-GROUPLOVE
{we played this song on the car ride to the beach both times we went}
{and we even sang it at the beach the second time}

The beach is a wonderful, wonderful place!
My bff wants to live near the beach for at least a year and who are we to discourage that?!
{in fact, if she's reading this (in arnab's words) "get to it!"}

This post will include pics. from two different days we were at the beach, I only write this because then the sporadic-ness of the pictures may make some more sense.

at Malibu:

{We always see dolphins. They are so beautiful!}

in a sweet summer haze

I'm quite obsessed with these shorts.
They've been my go-to all through summer.
I rergret not buying another of the exact same pair, in case something happens to these.
Yes. They are that fantastic.

 I love the vintage feel of arnab's pictures.
The vintage car sure does help.

...and you should've seen the looks i just received

To escape this hot, hot heat that we've been having these past two weeks arnab and I, along with our friends, have found ourselves at the beach, at the movies, and shopping!
Okay, the shopping wasn't a way for us to escape the heat, but it sure was fun!

We shopped over on Melrose, but first stopped at Jet Rag on La Brea because they have a $1 parking lot sale on Sundays!!

anisa is wearing a French Connection shirt, a  Proenza Schouler skirt, vintage Coach bag, and Halogen heels
arnab is wearing MLB LA Angels shirt, Levi's cut-offs, and Converse shoes

After shopping we spotted this food truck:
We proceeded to order some hot dogs and then just devoured them!
I'm a huge fan of hot dogs so I am pretty excited that my first ever food truck was a hot dog one.
P.s. the hot dogs were soooo good!!

And I drank this with it:
